Support

Can I Cast It? is a small, independent project. There is no support desk and no ticket queue — one person reads the email, and the answers to most questions are on this page.

Last updated 29 September 2026.

Email [email protected]. There is no account behind the app, so there is nothing for us to look up about you — the more you put in the email, the faster it gets sorted. For anything going wrong, include your phone, its OS version, the app version and what you were doing when it happened.

Report a venue that is wrong

This is the most useful message you can send. Access arrangements change without anyone telling us — a club takes on a stretch, a fishery closes, a free stretch goes to day ticket — and the app has no way to find out on its own.

Email [email protected] with:

  • The venue name as the app shows it, and the county.
  • What the app says, and what is actually true.
  • How you know — a club or fishery website, a sign at the water, or a conversation with the bailiff or owner. A link is ideal.

The venue, club and shop data originates from the Angling Trust dataset, and the canal, reservoir and bridge layers come from Canal & River Trust and Environment Agency open data. Corrections are applied in the next app update, so there is a lag — the app is a picture of the best public information, not a live register.

Common questions

Do I need an account?

No. There is no sign-up, no email address and nothing to log into. Everything you save — notes, private spots, licence entries — is written to storage on your own phone. See the privacy policy for exactly what that covers.

The pins are there but the map behind them is blank

The venue data, access rules and canal lines are bundled inside the app, so venue details and search keep working with no signal. The map imagery underneath them is not ours — it comes from Apple Maps on iOS and Google Maps on Android, and those tiles need a connection. With no signal you get the pins and all the detail on a blank background. That is expected, not a fault.

Do I still need a rod licence?

Yes — whatever colour a marker is. You need a valid Environment Agency rod licence to fish with a rod and line in England and Wales, and it is a separate thing from the permission to be on that particular water. Under-13s do not need one. The current classes, prices and rules are on gov.uk.

The licence wallet in the app is a reminder tool. It records a licence you already hold so you can find the number and the expiry date on the bank. It does not sell, issue or check licences, and we are not the Environment Agency.

I have hit the saved venues limit

The free app holds up to 3 saved venues and 3 private spots of your own. Pro raises both to 10, and removes the sponsored tackle-shop card from venue sheets. Everything else — the whole map, all 5,742 venues, access states, search, filters, the bankside journal and the licence wallet — is free and stays free.

Can I buy Pro?

Yes. Pro is £2.99 a month or £24.99 a year, bought through the App Store and billed by Apple, who also handle cancellation and refunds. You can cancel any time from inside the app (Manage subscription) or in your App Store settings. The monthly plan currently has a 1 month free trial, available until 1 December 2026; it renews at £2.99a month afterwards unless you cancel. The annual plan has no trial. Apple's purchase sheet shows the terms before you confirm.

I am moving to a new phone. How do I bring my notes across?

You cannot yet, and this is the app's biggest limitation. There is no cloud sync: your notes, private spots and licence entries exist only on the handset you made them on, and a new phone starts empty. Uninstalling the app deletes them. If that matters to you, keep your own copy of anything you would hate to lose before you switch.

How do I delete what the app has stored?

Individual notes and spots can be deleted inside the app. Deleting the app removes all of it from your device. We hold nothing on a server, so there is nothing for us to delete and nothing for us to recover afterwards.

How do I stop the app using my location?

Turn it off in your phone's settings — Settings → Can I Cast It? → Location on iOS, or Settings → Apps → Can I Cast It? → Permissions on Android. The app is fully usable without it: search for a venue by name, or use the county chips to move the map. The app only ever asks for location while you are using it, and your position never leaves the device.

A screen is blank, or the app closed on its own

Force-quit the app and reopen it — nothing you have saved is lost by doing that. If it keeps happening, email [email protected] with your phone model, OS version, app version and the steps that trigger it, and it will get fixed properly.

Something is hard to read or hard to reach

Tell us. Accessibility problems are bugs, and specific reports — which screen, what your text size is set to, what you could not do — are far more actionable than most feature requests.

What the app cannot do for you

  • Sell you a licence or a permit. It cannot issue or validate an EA rod licence, and it cannot buy a day ticket or book a peg. It tells you what is needed and who controls the water; the arrangement is between you and them.
  • Guarantee access. Access information is a guide assembled from public sources and can be out of date. Always confirm with the club, owner or fishery before you fish.
  • Tell you what is biting. There are no live catch reports or bait scores, because there is no community filing them yet.

Privacy and terms

Our privacy policy covers what the app stores and what it does not, and the terms of service cover use of the app and this site.
